Lymphoedema Clinic

Lymphoedema is a chronic swelling, most often of the limbs, primarily due to the failure or restriction of lymph drainage. For some this is carried from birth, for others it is the result of damage to the lymphatics through tumour, infection, trauma or following cancer treatment such as surgery or radiotherapy. Although this is a condition, which cannot be cured, it can be contained by the care provided. This care involves specialist daily bandaging, skin care, simple self-massage, exercises and compression hosiery.

Our Lymphoedema Clinic is run by a Specialist Registered Nurse who has undertaken extensive training to become an expert in the condition. She and an assistant hold a clinic at the Hospice Monday – Friday for patients following referral from the GP or Consultant. Where possible a visit can be made to patients in their home or in hospital. There is also a Support Group, which meets on a monthly basis.
