Spiritual Care
THE CHAPLAINCY
The Chaplaincy at St Wilfrid’s Hospice exists to provide spiritual and/or religious care to everyone: our patients in the hospice, those who attend the Day Therapy Unit, those cared for by the Home Care team, patients’ families, staff and volunteers. Within the framework of the holistic care for which St Wilfrid’s Hospice is well known, we also pay great attention to the spiritual dimension that is within all of us. The Chaplaincy team is therefore happy to be there, to be silent, to listen or to talk, whether people have a faith or not.
Our Chaplain, Caroline Rother, is a full time member of the multi-disciplinary team and as such is available daily to journey alongside patients and their families, offering comfort and support and her office is available for times of personal quiet reflection or for the opportunity of talking with her when needed.
Unfortunately St Wilfrid’s Hospice does not have a Chapel, but this does not prevent us from offering the following services:
• Holy Communion at the bedside - available upon request
• Thanksgiving/Remembrance services - held approximately twice a year or on request
• A short weekly service of prayer and intercessions - held on a Friday afternoon at 3.30 pm in the Day Therapy Unit and open to anyone would like to come and join us
• Visits out in the community – please just let us know
The Chaplain works closely with our local ministers who, together with leaders of other faith communities, are most welcome within the hospice so that we can be sure that each patient and their family receives the best care possible.
If you would like any more detailed information, or simply would like an informal chat about the work of the Chaplaincy, please do not hesitate to ring.
Similarly if you feel drawn towards the work of the Chaplaincy, as a volunteer, please ring Caroline on (01323) 644500 extension 253 or email c.rother@stwhospice.org
